Britney Spears slams ‘silent’ Christina Aguilera for hiding behind father

Britney Spears has laid into fellow singer Christina Aguilera for failing to speak out in defence of her father as he found her temporarily placed under conservatorship in 2008.

Spears, now 36, discussed the matter on the day it was being released as part of her Netflix documentary, Britney Jean, which was released on Wednesday.

The movie documents the pop star’s personal and professional life during her 2006-2016 stint in Las Vegas’ Planet Hollywood.

After watching the documentary, Spears told Good Morning America: “I was so upset that she had kept quiet for so long.”

Spears said she had wished she could have known what was going on in Aguilera’s life as it happened, and offered her advice.

“I was just like, ‘What’s going on in your life?’ I don’t care. It was tough, and I just didn’t know what to say,” Spears added.

“If she had just called me and talked to me about it, like ‘There’s nothing going on. This is not even the issue right now.’

“It could have helped. It sucks because I feel like she was in the same boat, she just wanted to stay quiet.”

Earlier, Billboard cited a source as saying the songstress “had issues” with Aguilera for her silence.

Aguilera has not commented on the matter.

In the documentary, Spears said she was scared her father James was “going to take my life” after he found her half-eaten carrots and grapefruit at home before deciding to put her in conservatorship.

The 45-year-old said she could not speak up for her own mental health because her father would not let her.

“I would yell and scream at my dad. Then he would threaten me, and say, ‘I’m going to take your money,'” she added.
