A Memphis police squad has released pictures of three suspects in the slaying of Young Dolph, the popular Memphis rapper who was shot and killed outside of a Memphis Popeyes restaurant.
Police are seeking the public’s help identifying the suspects in the fatal shooting Sunday night outside the Popeyes, in the 8200 block of Memphis Road, according to a press release sent Monday night.
According to news reports, witnesses reported hearing eight to 10 gunshots around 11:10 p.m. Sunday outside the Popeyes, in what police characterized as a drive-by shooting. Witnesses provided police with the following description of three suspects, according to the press release:
Suspect #1 – Dark complexion with a light beard. Black attire, camouflage jacket with red writing, red baseball cap, black pants, and red shoes.
Suspect #2 – Black or Hispanic male in dark clothing. He was also seen wearing camouflage.
Suspect #3 – Black male in dark clothing, black hat, and navy blue overcoat.
Other witnesses gave police descriptions of the suspects’ vehicles, which included a black SUV and a dark Chevy Suburban.
The three suspects were driving the SUV and were working together to separate themselves from the shooters, who approached in a second vehicle, according to the press release.
Authorities are asking anyone with information on the suspects to call Crime Stoppers at 528-CASH.
Young Dolph’s last tweet said that “No More Indictments.” He was one of the prosecutors in an alleged crack cocaine scheme that he allegedly led in California, documents in the case say. Young Dolph has said that he’s innocent of all charges.
Young Dolph’s sudden death comes after the rapper was set to release a new album and the release of a $1 million-performance for ESPN during NBA All-Star weekend in Los Angeles in February.
He was one of the most popular rappers in the city of Memphis and had major appearances at rap festivals such as both TIDAL X and SXSW this year.
